Learn moreRun a hand down old siding and if it comes away chalky white, that is oxidation — the surface of the material itself breaking down under UV. It is why a washed house can still look dull, and why a rinse changes nothing: there is nothing sitting on top to remove.
It is treated rather than washed, with a product that strips the oxidized layer back to sound material underneath. Done properly the color comes back several shades; done with pressure the panel gets streaked and the chalk simply spreads.
The same problem is what makes gutter faces stripe, so the two jobs usually go together.
